Northern Territory is one of the most remote and interesting states in Australia. If you are looking for something completely different than urban city life, consider taking a trip to Northern Territory. Here, you will enjoy spectacular natural scenery and an abundance of wildlife.
Darwin
Darwin is the capital of Northern Territory and known for its natural attractions such as the Kakadu and Litchfield National Parks. If you want to experience the Northern Territory wildlife, Kakadu National Park is the place to be. Experience the areas wetlands and all their wildlife, including the famous crocodiles. Yellow Water, Jim Jim and Twin Falls are all known for croc-spotting. At Litchfield National Park, you’ll experience thick rainforests full of flora and fauna. The waterfalls and plunge pools are popular among visitors.
Katherine
Between Darwin and Alice Springs, you’ll find the town of Katherine. The majestic sights around Katherine include the swimming holes and waterfalls at Katherine Gorge. Take a canoe ride through the gorge (don’t worry, there are no crocs here!). The hot springs of Mataranka are also popular among visitors looking to relax and take in the beautiful, natural surroundings and the warm waters.
Alice Springs
Though the town itself doesn’t have much to offer, Alice Springs is often used as a base point for those exploring nearby East and West MacDonnell mountain ranges, Frontier Camel Farm, Ross River Homestead and Alice Springs Dessert Park. The East MacDonnell Ranges feature a number of rugged bushwalking trails with spectacular scenic views. In the areas surrounding Alice Springs, you’ll be able to enjoy amazing rock formations, horseback riding, camping and much more.
Ayers Rock (Uluru)
Oftentimes when you ask someone what’s the best place to visit in Australia, they will say Ayers Rock. Known as the symbol of the Northern Territory, Ayers Rock towers spectacularly above the red desert floor. The climb to the top of Ayers Rock can be very steep, so be prepared for the trek. At the base of Ayers Rock, you will find plenty of camping sites, resorts and motels. Located 335 km southwest of Alice Springs, the area has many natural springs, rock caves, ancient paintings and other sites to see. The spectacular sandstone rock formation of Ayers Rock is a must-see attraction if you are in Northern Territory.
Seven Spirit Bay
Seven Spirit Bay is a very remote region located in the Cobourg Peninsula in Northern Territory Australia. This amazing tropical area is a true treasure and part of the Aboriginal Arnhem Land. Entry to the area is very limited and by permit only from the Tribal Elders. You can contact Seven Spirit Bay Wilderness Resort, who can arrange the privilege, but you must truly understand the spirituality of the wilderness and the customs of the tribes to be granted a permit. If you are lucky enough to get to Seven Spirit Bay, it will be a trip that you will never forget.
