South East Queensland
The south-eastern corner of the Sunshine State offers a veritable smorgasboard of family holiday destinations, depending on what kind of holiday adventure you’re after.
The Gold Coast is always a popular holiday spot, as it boasts several world class theme parks — including Sea World, Dream World and Warner Brothers Movie World — and a range of other attractions to keep the kids active and busy all day, every day. You can go whale watching, hang out at the beach, check out the local wineries or simply relax by the pool at your resort.
For a more chilled out affair, the Sunshine Coast offers a range of loosely connected coastal towns where you can unwind by the beach away from the crowds. Alternatively, the bright lights of Brisbane city offer a unique adventure in its own right, with A-list shopping, museums, restaurant and entertainment venues vying for your attention.
Northern NSW
Are you after a more low-key holiday destination? The northern region of NSW attracts more than two million Aussie holiday-makers per year, but you’ll be fighting smaller crowds in these regional coastal towns than you would on the Gold or Sunshine Coasts.
Areas such as Port Macquarie, Byron Bay and Coffs Harbour are great locations to take the kids, as you can drive through the magnificent mountain ranges, relax on the golden beaches or picnic in the hinterland and national parks, taking in everything the region has to offer at your leisure.
Adrenalin junkies also have their pick of sports and adventures, including scuba diving, sky-diving and rock-climbing, or you can get involved in less-active pursuits such as bushwalking, fishing and camping.
