Denim jeans are the most worn item on the planet. They can be dressed up, dressed down and there’s nothing like your favourite pair of jeans. Shop the designer look
If you want a classic designer look, make sure you purchase jeans in dark blue denim and in the straight leg cut. Straight leg jeans give the illusion of having long, lean legs.
Skip the wash
Don’t wash your jeans unless they’re about to grow legs and walk into the laundry. The less you wash them, the more you will maintain the colour, cut and size. Be sure to turn your jeans inside out when you do actually wash them to stop them from fading.
Ban the dryer
Never, ever put your jeans in the dryer. It ages the denim, causing it to lose its shape and colour. You don’t want to have a saggy, baggy bum.
Account for stretch
Denim stretches, so when purchasing a pair of jeans they should fit snugly, but not so tight your flabby bits spill over the top of the waistband into a muffin top. According to Dr Oz, tight jeans can cause nerve damage. You should be able to get a highlighter marker between the jeans and your waist and you should never wear them for more than seven hours at a time.
Get creative
Pimp your jeans by supercharging them with embroidery, expensive buttons, bedazzled rivets, pockets, patches or strategically-placed rips. If you’re the creative type, this should be easy.
It’s all in the pairing
Team your jeans with a pair of killer high heels and a figure-hugging glam top. No-one will be paying any attention to your jeans.
Self-distress
If you prefer your jeans to have the distressed look (where it looks like they’ve been in your closet since Noah built the ark), you don’t have to pay top dollar. Grab a heavy duty piece of rough sandpaper and get busy. You may want to practise on an unloved pair of jeans because getting carried away with sandpaper could result in holes in the denim — you are aiming for the designer look, not the homeless, threadbare look.
