Have you been a social butterfly the past few weeks? The party season can leave you feeling less than pretty, but it’s nothing that a little post-party pampering can’t fix. This DIY routine will get you looking and feeling gorgeous again — just in time for the next big bash!
The silly season is definitely fun, but it can also give your body — and your beauty regimen — a bit of a beating. Nobody likes to look or feel worn out, so it’s important to give your skin and body a little tender loving care. Take a break and indulge in one or all of these pamper sessions and you’ll be back to amazing in no time at all.
Hydration station
Besides energy, the one thing the party season sucks out of you is hydration. While drinking lots of water is great for flushing out your system, it’s essential to give your skin some moisture as well. After showering using a nourishing bodywash, towel off and massage in a heavy duty moisturiser or, even better, a body oil. By doing this while your skin is damp, you’ll really allow the moisturiser to absorb. Now, move onto your face. To wake up with soft and smooth skin, slather on a moisturising face mask after your shower. Leave it on for 10–15 minutes. Then, just before bed, apply a few drops of rosehip oil and lock it in with a rich night cream.
Foot heaven
All those late nights dancing away in six-inch heels can wreak havoc on your feet, so it’s super important to give them a little extra attention. If you’re short on time, simply use a pumice stone to slough off any dry skin and a file to polish your toenails before sliding them into shoes. If you really want to treat yourself, have a foot bath. It’s easy — fill a container with a quarter cup of Epsom salts and 20 drops of essential oil (lavender is an excellent choice because it has healing properties). If you’ve got hard calluses, add a quarter cup of full cream milk to the mix. Allow your feet to soak in the bath for 20 minutes for beautiful results.
Handy treat
It may sound off, but to hide the signs of the silly season, spend some time taking care of your hands. One of the first places women show age is on their hands, so when we are stressed, it’s a dead giveaway. Luckily, there is a simple remedy to get rid of the “dull” look of tired hands. Before nodding off, massage in a rich hand cream as well as a cuticle cream just below your nails. Then, pop on a pair of cotton gloves — you’ll be amazed at how soft your hands will be in the morning.
Bath bliss
Women spend their downtime doing different things. Some read, others go to a yoga class, and others still take a bath. When it comes to surviving the party season, the bath addicts have the right idea. Baths have an instantly relaxing quality and they can do wonders for your skin. For the ultimate spa experience, fill your bath with mineral-rich bath salts and a cup of Epsom salts. This combination of salts will ease sore muscles and draw toxins from the body. Scented candles and bubbles are also nice touches. While you’re in the bath, treat your tresses to a hydrating mask. Now, sit back and relax for as long as you like (or until you go “pruney”).
Scrub-a-dub
Out with the old, in with the new. We’re not sure where that saying comes from, but it definitely applies to beauty routines. To achieve your best party-ready skin (or to help it recover from too many parties), it’s important to slough away dead skin cells and make room for the new ones to shine through. The way you do that is by exfoliating. Two to three times a week, apply a sugar scrub all over your body, focusing on particularly dry areas such as elbows, knees and ankles. Every second day, lather your face with a gentle exfoliating scrub for super smooth skin.
Steam sensation
If you want the highest standard of pampering and the best results, nothing beats the steam room. All it takes is 20 minutes to sweat out all those toxins and emerge feeling incredible. Just make sure you rinse off immediately so that the sweat doesn’t absorb into your skin (which would defeat the purpose of getting rid of it in the first place). To feel really virtous, have your steam session after working out — the combination of the two will give you a rosy glow that no blush can do.
