The new plum lip for winter

It’s that time of year again when we can start to play with dark and bold colours in our clothing and makeup.

If there is only one beauty trend you try this autumn and winter, then it has to be a deep plum or berry lipstick.

It will be your new best friend once you try it because you don’t need to wear a lot of other makeup (the lipstick is the show stopper) and it’s that easy-to-pack item that will take you from the office (used lightly and topped with a gloss) to after-work drinks (slicked on thick and left matte).

If you’re going to plum up your lips, beauty blog Flutter and Pout says, “When you are wearing a bold lip colour, especially if it’s a matte finish, dry skin will be accentuated by the appearance of cracks and flakes in your lipstick.” So, remember to exfoliate, moisturise and prime your kisser before applying the final lipstick touches.

The top plum lipsticks available in Australia

M.A.C’s lipstick in Rebel

Clinique Chubby Stick in Voluptuous Violet

This crayon-like lipstick and gloss in one has created a cult following and the Voluptuous Violet colour is part of the in-crowd. It’s the perfect plum colour for those who aren’t ready to go too dramatic. It glides on lightly and offers the bonus of being moisturising thanks to the shea butter.

Stila Cosmetic’s Lip Glaze in Black Cherry

The brand’s most popular lip glaze continues to impress with the in-season plum selection of Black Cherry. The twist and slick feature means no sticky fingers, a real bonus in this deep shade.

Revlon Colourstay Ultimate Suede lipstick

Revlon has developed a new lipstick that stays on all day in a semi-matte, soft finish. Try it in Backstage, which is more towards a blood plum colour, or the Supermodel mauve that is quite light and would be lovely by day.

Estee Lauder Pure Colour in Plum Couture

Yet again Estee Lauder has produced a lipstick that just oozes with sophistication. The Plum Couture shade is rich and dark and just slicks on with ease. Divine.

Chi Chi Viva la Diva lipstick in Pretty Mauve

This lovely little lipstick is very affordable but still packed with lots of colour and moisture. Pretty Mauve is the perfect plum shade with a little sheen.
