You hate having a beauty mark and, even though they’re supposed to be a symbol of sexiness (thanks to Marilyn Monroe), it’s all you see when you look in the mirror. Fear not, we have some of the best tips for concealing your beauty marks without resorting to having to wear a paper bag over your head in public.
So many celebrities rock beauty spots: Cindy Crawford, Angelina Jolie, Mariah Carey, Blake Lively, Madonna and even Big Brother Australia housemate Jade. However, if you can’t force yourself to embrace the vintage look, there are easy steps you can take at home to reduce its visibility.
Avoid the sun
It isn’t only vampires who need to avoid the sunlight. Exposure to sun increases skin pigmentation and will cause your beauty mark to darken. Of course, you can’t be expected to stay indoors until the sun sets, so be sure to wear sun protection when you’re outside. If you insist on tanning so your lily white body doesn’t glow in the dark, use a natural bronzer self-tanning spray.
Use a dark spot corrector
Garnier has this great product on the market called Dark Spot Corrector (Priceline, $17). It evens skin tone and corrects sun spots, pimple spots and age spots. It has a high concentration of vitamin C which brightens skins, reduces dark spots and moisturises. Clinical testing found that 74 per cent of women experience a reduction in skin imperfections and dark spots in just four weeks.
Remove it
Having a hate relationship with your beauty marks and want them gone forever? There’s always laser surgery. However, this can be a costly procedure when you’re not flash in the cash department.

Tattoo cover up patches
Tattoo cover up patches have been a lifesaver for women who want to hide tattoos for job interviews, but we’ve come up with a different use for them. How about cutting them to size and using them to hide your beauty marks?
Use BB Cream
BB cream (Priceline, $14) combines three products in one — a moisturiser to keep your skin soft and supple, sunscreen to protect you from sun damage and foundation to conceal blemishes. It’s so quick and easy to apply and it’s available from most leading pharmacies and supermarkets.
Sticking plasters
Okay, so it’s a little hillbilly-ish to walk around with plasters on your face, but if you’re in a rush and you don’t have access to any of the suggestions above, you can generally find some lying around at home or in any first aid kit.
When all else fails
- Knit a balaclava. Although, it’s not extremely practical with the arrival of the warmer weather. You may even be arrested if you wear it in public, but it’s an idea you can keep in mind for the winter months or while skiing.
- Wear an enormous hat with a wide brim that flops across your face.
All kidding aside, don’t let your beauty marks ruin your day! They make you unique so when all else fails embrace them.
