Our favourite celebrity perfumes

Celebrity perfumes have a reputation for being a tad tacky. Girls, it’s time to to put brand snobbery aside and venture into the world of celebrity fragrances for Christmas. We promise you will be just as pleasantly surprised as we were.

Rogue by Rihanna

This is the fourth perfume Rihanna has released, and this time her new release veers away from the fruity, feminine scents she’s become known for. Rogue is more sophisticated, very sensual and, surprisingly, not just for women. Deep bass notes of musk, amber, wood, vanilla and patchouli are gorgeous when combined with lemon blossom, cyclamen, bergamot and pink peppercorn, jasmine, rose, suede and plum. (Cosmetic Fragrances Direct, $53)

Heat by Beyoncé

Unleash your inner Sasha Fierce with this captivating perfume, Heat by Beyoncé. If you could bottle sexiness, this is what it would smell like. “I want women to feel sexy, strong and empowered and I want them to feel like they can conquer anything. When they walk into a room, I want them to feel like they can leave a lasting impression on everyone they walk past,” Beyoncé said. Check out the TV commercial, which was rated a little too hot for daytime TV. (Priceline, $89)

Meow by Katy Perry

If you love Angel by Thierry Mugler, then Meow by Katy Perry will make you want to roar. Everything about this fragrance is super-duper cute, from the candylicious overtones to the gorgeous lilac kitty cat bottle. Designed by Perry while on her California Dreams tour, this scent embodies this crazy cat lady’s fun and playful personality. (Priceline, $49)

Girlfriend by Justin Bieber

Believe it or not, the Biebs has done it again. His first perfume release, Someday, was a big hit, and now Girlfriend has won the Women’s Consume Choice Award. It’s not a perfume you’d admit to wearing if you’re over the age of 16, but nevertheless it still pulls in the compliments. Give it a try, you can always revert to a white lie claiming you can’t remember what scent you’ve bathed in. (Myer, from $59)

Truth or Dare by Madonna

Madonna took her inspiration for Truth or Dare from her mother’s perfume, but there’s nothing old lady about this fragrance. Although it has a very retro feel to it, with heavy undertones of tuberose and gardenias, it’s modern, fresh and floral. The raunchy commercial used to promote the perfume, in true Madonna fashion, caused an uproar with its use of S&M bondage scenes. (Getprice.com.au, $40)

One Moment by One Direction

The hotly-anticipated One Moment perfume by One Direction is sweet, girly and has been described as a lingering cloud of fairy floss. One Moment is everything you would expect from a perfume targeted at teenage girls. The real surprise is it doesn’t matter whether you’re 6 years old or 66 years old, you’re going to adore this fragrance. It’s one of the fastest-selling perfumes in history, so make sure you get yours early so you don’t miss out. (Myer, from $59)
