Transgender model Andreja Pejic makes history at London Fashion Week

Serbian model Andreja Pejic has modeled for designers like Jean Paul Gaultier, but London Fashion Week is the first time she’s walked the runway as a woman.

The 23-year-old made her debut as a female runway model Monday during the Giles Deacon show at London Fashion Week. The gorgeous Pejic walked alongside fellow models Kendall Jenner and Lily Donaldson wearing a dramatic Victorian high-collared blouse with a bow and black coat, along with a dark gothic lip — and her impossibly high cheekbones.

The model — born Andrej Pejic — underwent sex reassignment therapy last spring, though she recently told Style.com that she’s known since age 13 that transitioning from male to female “was always something I needed to do.”

Pejic’s next plans? To break more ground in the work of beauty, though that is more of a challenge because “you have to prove to them over and over that you are liked by people, you have a skill and you can sell a product.”

Something tells us she’s breaking through that barrier, too. For now, she’s happy to model as a woman — and, most importantly, she’s now comfortable in her own skin. “It makes me feel freer than ever,” she added to Style.com. “Now I can stand naked in front of a mirror and really enjoy my reflection. And those personal moments are important.”
