Prom is every high school girl’s dream and one of the most chaotic times of the year. A lot of thought and planning has to go into picking out the perfect dress — because she can’t have the same dress as another girl — and then there’s hair, makeup and the date. Sometimes finding a new outfit for the big night isn’t always in the budget.
Thanks to TLC’s Say Yes to the Prom initiative, more girls can get the prom experience of a lifetime. JCPenney donated thousands of dresses, shoes and accessories for girls who were chosen based on their academic and leadership achievements to participate in this program. They picked out their dress and shoes and were individually styled by Say Yes to the Dress‘s very own Monte Durham. At the end of the day, all the girls worked the runway in their new prom look.

It feels like my senior prom was ages ago, but the excitement and chaos around it is all part of the memory. These are the six emotional stages a girl goes through that makes the big night all worth it in the end.
1. Dress shopping anxiety
Finding the perfect dress for prom is the equivalent to finding the perfect dress for a wedding — it has to be “the one.” When there are so many options, dress shopping can get a little overwhelming, but when she finds the perfect dress, she just knows it’s the one because she feels like a princess.

2. Desperately trying to find a date
With all the cute “promposals” posted on the internet, it’s hard for a girl to not wonder if a boy is going to ask or not. If she decides to go with a group of friends instead of a date, she is still guaranteed a good time (maybe even a better time!).

3. Feeling like a princess getting your hair and makeup done

One of the best parts of getting ready for prom is getting pampered. There’s nothing like getting to sit back, relax and enjoy the special treatment.
4. Butterflies when the date arrives

Cue the butterflies. After spending so much time getting ready for the night, there’s that sudden rush of butterflies when her date arrives at the door.
5. Which camera am I supposed to look at?
This one is for the parents who love to take pictures of every big moment in their kids’ lives, and prom is definitely one of them. The best feeling is being tagged in (attractive) pictures on Facebook after a magical night.
6. The excitement of finally getting to prom
For a girl, prom itself can be a magical experience — from the pictures at the beginning to dancing the night away all night long with her best friends. Nothing gives a girl more confidence than getting pampered and showing off her new look to the world — even if it’s just for one night.
