Today is National Flower Arranging Day and to mark the occasion members of NAFAS (National Association of Flower Arranging Societies) are leaving beautiful floral surprises in unexpected places around the U.K.
If you see a random flower arrangement on the street on your way home from work pick it up — it’s yours.
These “Lonely Bouquets,” also referred to by NAFAS as “posies of friendship” (we love that) have been left in public spots the length and breadth of the country by florists and flower-arranging enthusiasts.

Derry’s John Paul Florist is one florist participating in the event, leaving their own Lonely Bouquets around the city centre to be discovered and enjoyed by whoever finds them. The Londonderry and District Floral Art Society are also leaving beautiful one-of-a-kind arrangements around Londonderry.
“I think the Lonely Bouquet campaign is a great thing to be involved with because it’s a chance to give a small random act of kindness to a stranger,” said John Paul. “Leaving flowers in an unexpected place gives somebody a nice surprise for themselves or to pass on to a friend.”
“Doing it on National Flower Arranging Day makes it even more special,” he continued. “Flowers can lift somebody’s spirits and change their mood so I’m more than happy to be involved and leave some lonely bouquets around to find new homes.”
Wherever you are today if you do find a floral surprise you can show your appreciation by sharing the news on social media with the hashtag #?nafaslonelybouquet?, saying where you found your Lonely Bouquet and posting a picture of it in its new home.
