A photo posted to a Spanish woman’s Instagram account four months ago has hit the news across the world. It’s possibly one of the most shocking images I, personally, have ever seen on the site. And I’m not easily shocked.
User lapelirrojah_delbarriooh posted a photo of a baby smoking a cigarette with the caption “already smoking at a year old, love you little one, you’re my f*cking life,” reported The Local.
The image has now been deleted but is still being shared on Twitter:

President of the Spanish Association of Pediatricians, Antonio Nieto, called the photo “absolutely terrible” and said that it would definitely be considered child abuse. “Tobacco is intrinsically even worse than heroin and to give it to a baby whose lungs are still developing [is unbelievable],” he said. “Even children who are exposed to passive smoking are more likely to develop lung conditions such as asthma or chronic bronchitis.”

It’s not clear whether the woman is the baby’s mother but another Instagram picture posted to the same account shows the two of them together with the caption “mi niña!” which means “my girl.”
