Amazingly hilarious things happen all the time in nature, but they’re rarely caught on camera. However, when they are, it’s always a treat. This time, thanks to a local family being in the right place at the right time, we now know what it looks like when a raccoon takes an alligator for a spin around the river.
Richard Jones was just out for a lovely nature walk with his family around the Ocklawaha River in the Ocala National Forest when he happened upon this funny phenomenon. He told the local news that he thinks his son startled the raccoon, who then jumped on the nearby alligator and used him briefly as a getaway car.
“I snapped a lucky picture right when the gator slipped into the water and before the raccoon jumped off and scurried away. Without the context you’d think the raccoon was hitching a ride across the river. Pretty amazing,” Jones wrote in an email to WFTV. “Definitely the photo of a lifetime.”

I like to think that the alligator is now coming up with an Uber-like service for animals in need of a quick shuttle across bodies of water. Obviously he was not in favor of giving this little guy a freebie, but it could very well be the catalyst for a great entrepreneurial venture.
