The Rachel Dolezal story just keeps getting weirder.
Is it possible that, in an attempt to keep her race hidden, Rachel Dolezal could have implicated her older brother, Joshua, for sexually abusing a black child? This might explain why her family has decided to speak out about Rachel’s race.
Joshua Dolezal, 39, has been charged with four counts of felony sexual assault for an incident that occurred at Joshua and Rachel’s parents’ house in 2001 or 2002, according to reports. Joshua and Rachel were the only biological children of Lawrence and Ruthanne Dolezal, but the couple has four other children who were adopted. Some of the children are black.
The alleged abuse is said to have occurred between a victim who was 6 or 7 years old at the time and the offender who was 19 years older.
Joshua Dolezal was arrested last year for the sexual assault and is out on $15,000 bail while he waits for his court date in August.
The Dolezal family says Rachel fabricated the abuse claims to win custody of the young black boy, Izaiah, whom she eventually adopted. Rachel also claims she suffered abuse from her family.
“If she’s alleging there was abuse in our family from years past, then it’s false, and there’s no need to comment on anything of that nature,” Lawrence Dolezal told The Post last week. “That’s just utter falsehood.”
To make things even more complicated, Joshua is an English professor at Central College, a private liberal arts college in Iowa. He has published a memoir, Down from the Mountaintop: From Belief to Belonging, that makes many references to his sister Rachel, their childhood and her troubled and ultimately failed marriage to a black man, Kevin Moore.
Ruthanne reportedly told People that Rachel has some sort of “disorder” and “seeks to cause trouble in the family.”
Our son wasn’t even home a lot of the time it was alleged it was happening,” she says, “and I was a stay-at-home mother and very attentive to the kids because of her disorder. I never left her at home with our son or anything like that.”
Could the molestation charges be what caused Rachel’s parents to come out and publicly expose their daughter? Certainly this won’t be the last we hear about the strange story of Rachel Dolezal or the lengths she might have been willing to go to keep her race secret.
