8 Ways to add color pizzazz to your home this summer

Color pizzazz is literally the name of the game over here on  (and so is DIY), so I’ve combined my love of color and all things handmade to bring you eight different ways to add color to your home for summer, inspired by HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams and Color Pizzazz color collection, available exclusively at Lowe’s.

Though we’re no strangers to bright pops of color, for those of you who would rather ease into it gently, these projects are simple ways to mix and match until you find just the right amount for you. Plus, the new color collections are built to give you safe guidelines to follow for a foolproof, cohesive look in your home from room to room. After all, no one wants you to be “that house” on the block, so here are few ideas to help get you started.

Wall art is one of the best (and most budget-friendly!) ways to keep things fresh from season to season, plus it allows youget wild every now and then with changing trends, like this DIY pom pom wall hanging. It plays perfectly on the Coral Reef, Outgoing Orange and Afternoon shades in the Color Pizzazz collection.

In case subtle is more your vibe, a DIY watercolor wall piece is a simple statement piece that can blend with any room, inspired by the more ocean-y shades in the collection.

In case you’re a master host or hostess when it comes to sunny summer days, adding pops of color through open shelving and inexpensive painted glassware is an easy way to customize your home to any party theme, just like we did in our studio kitchenette.

If you’re really feeling wild, you can even create a DIY statement door (or modern, sliding barn door in our case) in a color block pattern for added interest. I have to say, this is a great option for when you can’t decide between your two favorites! Try this with Coral Reef and Marshmallow from the Color Pizzazz collection.

Bringing the outdoors in is always a fan favorite when the weather warms up and the sun is shining, and these DIY midcentury planters are easily customizable to any color of your choice (aka, you don’t have to be a color pizzazz fan just like us).

With extra summer entertaining comes the need for more seating and side tables, and this DIY retro-inspired side table is great for indoor or outdoor settings and has just the right amount of color to keep it fun.

Now this DIY is definitely for the risk takers! But, if you have an old chair laying around that you’re willing to take the risk on, this DIY patterned chair tutorial will definitely liven up a space. Plus crazy summertime patterns and colors give you a little bit more freedom to express yourself on seasonal furniture without the commitment.

Last but not least, flowers will always make a space pop, and even more so when you’re collecting them in a cute DIY polka dot bicycle basket. Make some in every color as mini personalized bikes for the whole family. Parakeet could be a great shade to check out for this DIY!

So what do you think? Are you inspired by any of the color collections to start your own DIYs? What’s your favorite HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams color collection to choose from? With 20 colors in each collection, you still have plenty to choose from!
