He is the man who changes nappies, offers cuddles, reads books, sings lullabies, pulls funny faces and tickles little feet. And for all of those things — especially the nappies — he deserves a little something special for Father’s Day.
DIY mini dad book
Supplies:
- Mini book printables: Daddy I love you because, Dad
- Scissors
- Black pen
- Camera
- Card stock
- Cardboard
- Craft knife
- Washi tape
- Glue
- Hole punch
- Baker’s twine
Directions:
1. Create and print out a mini book printable template and then cut and fill out the cards. If you have older kids, you can leave it up to them. If you’re working with a baby, you’re going to have to do most of the heavy lifting.
2. Stick the cards onto a hard surface, such as a piece of cardboard, a clipboard or a piece of wood — something that your child can hold easily. Take photos of your kid/s holding the signs and try to get as much variety as possible — this will be easier with older kids. Then select, edit and print (either at home or at a professional photo printing booth) your favourite pictures.
3. Select at least two colours of card stock, but as many as two per photo. Then measure and cut the card stock and cardboard into 15-centimetre squares. You will need at least two squares per colour.
4. Split the card stock squares into two groups. Put one group aside. Measure 1.75 centimetres from each side of the remaining squares. This will form a smaller square at each of their centres.
5. Using a craft knife, cut out the centre squares to form frames.
6. Stick a picture in the middle of each of the untouched squares.
7. Place a frame square in a different colour over the top of the picture and stick it in place. Punch holes on the left edge of the squares.
8. Use washi tape to decorate the edges of the cardboard squares.
9. Take one of the small squares, which you cut out in order to make the card stock frames, and slice it in half. Then fold each half lengthways. Punch holes in each of these halves. Then glue the non-punctured side to the inside edge of the cardboard squares.
10. Stack the pages together, with the cardboard squares at either end, and thread the baker’s twine through the punch holes.
11. Tie a bow once you secure the front cover flap to the rest of the book.
12. For a final touch, get the kids to decorate or sign the front cover. Alternatively, use the printable template as a kind of cover sheet.
