Brighten up your walls with your very own handmade work of art. This gorgeous wall art project can easily be customized to suit your style.
Supplies:
- Wrapped canvas
- Stencils
- Pencil
- X-Acto knife
- Large sheet of watercolor paper
- Watercolor paint
- Paintbrush
- Scissors
Directions:
1. Paint
Get your paintbrush wet, and start painting a watercolor design on the watercolor paper. Have fun blending the colors and seeing what different combinations you can create. You truly can’t make a mistake on this step.
2. Fill the page
Keep painting until you have filled the entire page with watercolor, then set it aside to dry.
3. Draw the design
While the paint dries, grab your pencil and a stencil and lightly trace the design you would like to cut out on to the canvas.
4. Cut it out
Using your X-Acto knife, carefully cut out the design on the canvas. I put a thick coloring book beneath the canvas as I was cutting just to provide a little extra support.
5. Clean it up
Keep cutting out your design until you are happy with the way it looks. If necessary, go back through with a small pair of scissors, and clean up any stray strings from the canvas.
6. Add the watercolor
Cut the piece of watercolor paper so that it fits within the back frame of the canvas. Slide the paper between the back support bar of the canvas to hold it in place. If the paper needs any extra support, use a piece of tape to secure it.
7. Hang it up
Now that the watercolor backing has been added, you are ready to display your DIY custom art.
