Happy 14th birthday to Mo’ne Davis, a girl who isn’t just dazzling baseball fans with a cannon for a pitching arm. Now she can add being drafted by the Harlem Globetrotters to her already astounding résumé.
The team has decided to stake its claim on the young talent early and lock her postcollegiate career down with the Globetrotters by offering her a job with the team once she graduates.
“The Globetrotters are exercising a Future Discovery Clause to obtain the rights to Davis when she graduates from college,” the team said.
Davis is currently an eighth-grader, so the Globetrotters’ travel schedule would be pretty hard for her to swing.
Mo’ne made a surprise appearance with the Globetrotters in March and dazzled the crowd with her skills first as a Washington General and then as a Globetrotter.
“She fits the Globetrotter DNA,” Globetrotters SVP of communications Brett Meister told TMZ Sports. “Great athlete, great entertainer and personality.”
He adds that when the team reached out to her to give her the news, she was pretty excited.
“She was thrilled to be drafted,” Meister said.
Mo’ne rose to fame as a Little League star with a 70-mph fastball. She was the first girl to pitch an entire Little League World Series game and even graced the cover of Sports Illustrated.
Happy birthday, Mo’ne. We can’t wait to see what the year holds, but it’s a pretty sure bet that it will be amazing.
