What parent wouldn’t want their child to think of others? This young boy continues to pay it forward — even on his special day.
Braxton Louch is only 11 years old and can educate so many on the importance of community service. The South Carolina boy is making news for a birthday ritual that doesn’t include a long list of gift wants or an over-the-top party. Apparently this has been an annual event for some time.
“When we asked him what he wanted for his ninth birthday, Braxton said he didn’t want any presents,” Teryi Louch, Braxton’s mom, toldFOX Carolina News. “Our family throws big birthday parties, so I told him he should think of something that he’d like, and he said he wanted presents for the animals at PAWS.”
Braxton’s mom revealed that her son started volunteering at the Anderson County PAWS shelter in South Carolina before he was 9 years old. His love for animals and passion for volunteerism have inspired him to skip fancy birthdays and focus his efforts on gathering donations. A few years ago, he started collecting supplies on his special day that turned into 500 pounds of pet food for the shelter.
For his birthday this year, Braxton hosted his first-ever car show that encouraged enthusiasts to view classics and help his cause. “He was so excited that he wanted to make it an annual event,” said his mother. The event was quite successful, as the birthday boy was able to donate over 1,500 pounds of food, toys, cleaning supplies and $400 to the PAWS shelter. His parents couldn’t resist giving him a big gift to commemorate all his hard work — a 1968 Dodge Charger. “We just got a deal we couldn’t pass up, and since he’s so humble, we wanted to give Braxton a present that’s as big as his heart,” said his mom.
Braxton is currently planning his second annual car show for his next birthday.
Kudos to this kid for being so charitable. It seems like most of today’s youth are focused on themselves and all the fancy presents they hope to receive on their birthday. Granted, the parents do set the expectation, and it can get a little annoying going to birthday parties where more attention is paid to the size of the gift box than spending time with loved ones.
Hopefully more of us will take a page from Braxton!
