We hope you’ve had your coffee because there’s a lot going on this Monday morning. Here are the top news stories everyone will be talking about today:
1. Ferguson is still far from OK
Yesterday marked one year since Michael Brown was gunned down by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri. Vigils were held to honor the teen and attendants observed four and a half minutes of silence to signify the four and a half hours Michael Brown’s body lay on the street after he was shot. Unfortunately, the peaceful demonstrations ended in more violence. Ferguson police shot a man during a protest last night after they say he wielded a hand gun and opened fire on them. More protests are expected to be held today. — CNN

2. Stop talking, Donald
Last week’s GOP debates ignited a feud between Donald Trump and debate moderator Megyn Kelly, and The Donald is not backing down. Trump landed himself in hot water after he described Kelly as out to get him, saying, “She had blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever.” Plenty of people took that to be a sexist reference to menstruation and even some conservatives are saying Trump went too far. Does he care? Nope. He doubled down on his comments and refused to apologize, leading his top adviser, Roger Stone, to quit the campaign. Trump thrives on controversy, but his act is clearly getting old. — ABC News

3. As if we needed more reasons to love Target
Target deserves a round of applause after announcing this weekend that they’re doing away with gendered signage in their toy, home and entertainment departments. Target representatives say the move comes after several customers voiced complaints. Not only will the gendered signs be removed, but they’re also replacing pink and blue shelf backing with more gender neutral colors like yellow and green. Any parent will tell you toy shopping is horrendous because of the way gender roles are forced on children, so this is a big deal. Target was already our favorite place to accidentally spend $300, but now we have even more reason to visit. — NBC News

4. Heartbreaking
Another mass shooting happened over the weekend, this time at a home in Houston, Texas. A man allegedly broke into his former home and killed his ex-partner and seven others, including several young children. The suspect, David Conley, has an extensive criminal record dating back to 1988. He’s been charged with three counts of capital murder and denied bond. The whole thing is just unimaginably sad and our hearts go out to everyone affected by this unthinkable tragedy. — USA Today
5. One of the greats
NFL legend Frank Gifford died yesterday. The 84-year-old passed away of natural causes at his home in Connecticut. Gifford spent his career with the New York Giants and was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 1977. He then became a broadcaster, working as an announcer on Monday Night Football and during the Olympics. He is survived by his equally famous wife, television personality Kathie Lee Gifford. — The New York Times

6. The Man in the Moon might have a girlfriend
A strange figure on a photo from the Mars rover has UFO enthusiasts all in a tizzy. A formation in the rocks appears to be the ghostly figure of a woman peering down at Curiosity. As Mashable puts it, “The level of resemblance is almost certainly relative to your desire to believe in extraterrestrial life.” Still, who isn’t a little bit in love with the idea of a random Martian phantom? — Mashable
