Whether you’re looking for a popular name for your new favorite pooch or just trying to avoid the overused, we have the results of Nextdoor’s top dog names study.
They aggregated data from over 70,000 neighborhoods in the U.S. to determine the most popular dog names. Without further ado, the top dog names of 2015 are (drum roll please!)…
For the fourth year in a row, Bella tops the list in the overall category. It seems the trend this year is to eschew old standbys like Rover and to give your fur baby a human name — they’re part of the family, after all. While the trend in baby names seems to be nostalgic classics, people are sticking with mostly mainstream in puppy monickers, with all but two ending with Y or IE. Rounding out the top 10 are pretty classic girl names like Lucy and Daisy, strong and stable masculine names like Max and Charlie and cute and so-old-fashioned-they’re-hip-again names like Maggie and Sadie. It’s no surprise that Buddy makes the list, because that’s what your dog really is. Sweet Molly and gender-neutral Bailey round out the list.
Nextdoor also provided us with top dog names by breed, which mixes it up a bit more. We’re hardly surprised to see a ton of boxers named Rocky or shih tzus called Gizmo.
