Didn’t have time to catch the morning news? That’s okay because we watched it for you. Here are the top stories everyone will be talking about:
1. See you later, Alligator
Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker dropped out of the Republican presidential race yesterday. Walker entered the race in July as a front runner, but poor debate performances made it impossible to find donors. In a press conference, Walker said he’s being “called to lead by helping to clear the field in this race.” He wants others to consider dropping out as well, in the hopes that a “clear, conservative alternative” will emerge to take on Donald Trump. Walker’s exit comes 10 days after Rick Perry left the race. It’s a sign that the 17-candidate Republican field may finally start to thin out. As of this writing, Trump and Fiorina lead the polls. — CNN

2. Disturbing doesn’t even begin to cover it
A shocking article in TheNew York Times alleges that the U.S. military has a longstanding policy of ignoring child sexual abuse in Afghanistan. According to the report, rampant sexual abuse has always been a problem in Afghanistan, particularly among military commanders who can bully rural populations, but former service members claim American soldiers and marines have been instructed not to stop the abuse — even if the abusers are backed by the United States and carry out their abuses on military bases. Service members who don’t comply can allegedly be reprimanded or even forced to leave the army. The article is raising a lot of very disturbing questions and we’re curious to hear what military leaders have to say. — TheNew York Times
3. A lesson learned
Former NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams is back to work for MSNBC today. The veteran journalist was suspended in February after it surfaced that he lied about his helicopter being hit by enemy fire on a reporting tour of Iraq in 2003. Veterans from the convoy challenged his story, and he eventually recanted. In June, it was announced that Lester Holt, who was covering the NBC anchor spot during Williams’ suspension, would be taking over the gig full time. Williams will now cover news as it breaks with no dedicated time slot as he attempts to get back in the public’s good graces. — USA Today

4. Greedy, greedy
Yesterday, a drug commonly used to treat a life-threatening parasitic infection jumped in price from $13.50 per tablet to $750 per tablet. The reason? It was acquired by Turing Pharmaceuticals, which is run by a former hedge fund manager who apparently decided he wants to make a big profit off of it. The drug, which is called Daraprim, has been on the market for more than 60 years and doctors and patients are outraged at the 5000 percent price hike. Even presidential candidates are paying attention — Hillary Clinton said she intends to announce a new plan to address pharmaceutical price-gouging. Looks like we desperately need one. — CBS News
5. iWant this
Apple is making an electric car. The working title of the project is Titan, and the car is scheduled for release in 2019. That’s sooner than most people expected, and Apple has a lot of work on their plate if they want to get it done on time. The first car will be fully electric and driver-operated, but there’s hope that future cars will be self-driving. If Titan succeeds, it will put Apple in direct competition with Tesla for the title of biggest name in electric cars. Oh, also, Apple nerds will completely lose their minds. — Wall Street Journal
6. For the ladies
Female veterans are set to get some historic recognition today as the very first all-female Honor Flight takes off. Honor Flight Tri-State was created to honor veterans over 65 who either served in the military stateside or overseas by providing them with a free trip to visit their memorials in D.C. Women have been included in past flights, but the trips are usually predominately men. This will be the the first women-only flight and represents the growing recognition of women’s contributions to the U.S. armed forces. You go, girls. — USA Today
