Halloween-mad family turn their home into a house of horror (PHOTOS)

This family has spent around £20,000 transforming their modest house (a.k.a. Howick House of Terror) into a “Zombie Apocalypse” for Halloween.

Their film-quality costumes, state of the art pneumatics and animatronic props wouldn’t look out of place in a theme park.

“It actually started out as a Halloween party for our friends and family and each year we decided to add more decorations,” Frankie Walton, 19, told SheKnows. “One year some of our neighbours suggested we should do it as an open house event and five years later we’ve never looked back.”

Frankie revealed that the mammoth task of preparing the house for the event began back in July. “All year round we will be thinking of ideas and buying products whenever we can get them, ready for the next Halloween,” she said.

This year sees the addition of state of the art pneumatic and animatronic props, which the family hope will “get the best scares out of everyone.”

This year the Waltons have created 11 themed rooms, including five temporary rooms in their driveway, and the garage and garden have also been converted. Among the spooky attractions are a Zombie’s House, Dracula’s Lair and a Haunted Carnival.

The 50 props include a clown on a tricycle to resemble Billy The Puppet from the horror film Saw and an Exorcist-themed room.

According to Frankie, the neighbours are “really supportive” of a house of terror appearing on their street for two days. “A lot of them have children so they tend to bring them to the event and for us as a family it’s actually nice to meet your neighbours — in this day and age it’s not very often people know all their neighbours.”

The two-day extravaganza is open to everyone and the family are expecting more than 1,000 people. It’s free to enter but visitors are encouraged to donate to Cancer Research and help the Waltons reach their target of £2,000 for the charity.
