It’s a known fact that, on average, women in the same industry as men take home a much lower salary and the gender pay gap has now inspired two women to create a clever parody video.

Introducing The Women’s Discount Card, the brainchild of London advertising executives Zoe Nash and Sali Horsey, which is the perfect opportunity to even out the playing field. Finally, you can afford to split the bill with your male friends and your boyfriend no longer has to pay your bus fare. What a relief!
“Because of the gender pay gap, women are essentially working for free until the end of the year,” the video states. “Luckily for us, the government has come up with an ingenious way to help women deal with their financial deficit.”

Some of the testimonials in the video include, “Now that I have The Women’s Discount Card I really don’t mind working,” and “It basically just means that when I go for dinner with my male colleagues I can pay my own way.”
It’s not unlike a student or OAP card, and allows women to get money off food, public transport and even entertainment — because with such unfair earnings we definitely need this.
Of course, The Women’s Discount Card doesn’t actually exist but the point is that it shouldn’t have to, and nor should the gender pay gap.
The video may be tongue-in-cheek but it’s a brilliant way to highlight the issue faced by so many women and encourage everyone to support equal pay for women.
