Warning: There’s a group of cowards lurking on the London underground. Calling themselves Overweight Haters Ltd (not a real company, FYI), they are handing out cards to women — and they’re not the sort bearing messages of festive goodwill.

NHS worker Kara Florish shared pictures of the card she was handed on the Tube on Saturday, commenting that it could “potentially upset people struggling with confidence.”

She also shared the pictures on Facebook, writing: “Dear all — I was handed this card this morning on the underground and I would appreciate it if people tweeted, posted etc. all over the internet. I am not upset myself, I am smaller than the national average and not exactly obese, but this is hateful and cowardly and could potentially upset people struggling with confidence and eating disorders.”

Social media users have reacted with disgust, and another commuter also tweeted about seeing an “overweight girl” being handed a card on the Tube at Oxford Circus.

He adds that he was “99.9% sure this wasn’t staged,” posting “She didn’t even realise I was watching at first. Her stunned, desolate reaction was very real. Then tears.”
Aside from the widespread online support and encouragement, there’s a positive outcome to this story. One company decided to print its own body-positive cards, and went to Oxford Circus to hand them out to passers-by.

The same company is offering the second girl, who still hasn’t been named, an outfit up to the value of £500.
If anyone can find this woman, we'd like to offer her a free outfit up to £500. Life is short. Be positive. ❤💪 https://t.co/3imJLMejE6

Whatever Overweight Haters Ltd wanted to achieve with their stunt, all they’ve done is make themselves look despicable.
