1. Somebody stop him
Yesterday, Donald Trump called for the U.S. to bar all Muslims from entering the country. He said that until we’re able to understand the threat posed by Muslims, we can’t sit back and allow our country to be the “victims of horrendous attacks by people who only believe in Jihad, and have no sense of reason or respect for human life.” The idea of a religious test to enter the country is unprecedented, and Trump is playing with fire in promoting such ignorance and hatred. 2. Time for a check-up
The Justice Department has opened an investigation into the Chicago Police Department in light of the shooting of Laquan McDonald. Two weeks ago, video of a white officer gunning down the teen was released. The officer has been charged with first-degree murder, but many are still wondering why it took more than a year to release the video and punish the cop. The Justice Department is determined to get some answers and see if these issues in handling misconduct are widespread throughout the force. It’s about time. — AP
3. Gun control
Yesterday the Supreme Court decided not to hear a challenge to an Illinois city’s assault weapons ban. Highland Park, a suburb of Chicago, passed the ban in 2013. It prohibits the sale, purchase and possession of semi-automatic firearms that can hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition. A state gun association challenged the ban, and by declining to step in, the Supreme Court allowed the ban to stay in place. Gun control advocates consider it a victory, but pro-gun folks are not happy about the court’s decision. — CNN

4. Pizza, pizza
Manchester Metropolitan University has a new degree program, and you’ll never guess what it is. The university is offering a degree in Pizza Hut. OK, technically it’s a degree in financial analysis and food production, but it’s a part of a new apprenticeship program with Pizza Hut, and saying you have a degree in pizza sounds way cooler, right? In the program, students will spend time at both the university and various Pizza Hut franchises, getting a hands-on education in restaurant management. Sounds delicious. — Refinery29
5. Fierce
Tonight is the annual Victoria’s Secret fashion show. It was taped last month, but will air on CBS at 10 p.m. ET. The show will feature performances by Ellie Goulding and Selena Gomez. Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid will also be there making their Victoria’s Secret debuts and showing off the latest collections from the retailer. The production is more of a pop concert than a fashion show, but it’s still a fun event — if you can stay awake until 10 p.m., that is. — USA Today

6. Good man, Bono
U2 performed in Paris to make up for the show they had to cancel following last month’s terrorist attacks, and they made a beautiful gesture. They brought the Eagles of Death Metal on stage to perform. The Eagles of Death Metal were performing at the Bataclan concert hall in Paris during the attack and 89 people at their show were killed, including members of their crew. In introducing the band last night, Bono said, “They were robbed of their stage three weeks ago, and we’d like to offer them ours tonight.” I’m not crying. You’re crying. — NPR
