Christmas tree makes a brilliant statement about feminism (PHOTO)

The festive season inspires plenty of brilliant, witty ad campaigns, but there’s a nightclub that’s taken the Christmas “period” to a whole new level.

The Camel Club, a popular student bar in Huddersfield, decided to decorate their Christmas tree in a rather unconventional way — with tampons.

A snap of the tree, nicknamed “Sani-tree,” was shared on social media along with the words “helping you through the christmas period!” Of course, this tree is not for everyone, but a feminist group has applauded the bar for “normalising” the menstrual cycle.

According to The Huddersfield Daily Examiner, the group described the tree as something that helps to “normalise a part of nature that is often presented as vulgar and offensive.” The publication also commented on the tampon tax controversy, which has gained traction in recent months, and the fact that the “government eventually agreed to try to scrap VAT to sanitary towels.”

But they aren’t the only ones impressed, as reactions on Twitter prove.

A member of the University of Huddersfield’s Feminist Society, Bethany Givvons-Collinge, also weighed in on the idea and expressed how brilliant she thought it was.

“As a feminist, I personally love the idea of this,” Givvons-Collinge said. “Far from being sexist or degrading, I feel this festive pun actually helps to normalise periods and remove some of the stigma attached to them.”

“I’ve been made to feel embarrassed and, to some degree, ashamed of my period, smuggling sanitary products to school toilets or feeling awkward when buying them from a male cashier.”
