Woman recycles wedding gown to create something heartbreaking but beautiful

Your wedding dress may have a lot of sentimental value, but chances are it’s probably sitting unused and unlooked at in your closet, gathering dust for years. And that’s why this woman’s idea is so beautiful.

It’s also incredibly sad.

Yvonne Trimble decided to do something special with her wedding gown, so she sent it to Kent-based charity Cherished Gowns for Angel Babies, which helps transform wedding gowns into burial frocks for stillborn babies — and she has been blown away by the results.

Taking to Facebook on Jan. 3, Trimble shared the photos of Cherished Gowns for Angel Babies’ beautiful work — seven little dresses — along with a heartfelt caption. While she felt “pride that I’d done something good”, she also felt overwhelming “sadness that it’s necessary for these gowns to have to be made, relief that I’ve never known this heartbreak, and a sense of thankfulness that volunteers around the country give up their time to produce such comforting garments”.

Her post has inspired countless others to do the same and has been shared more than 100,000 times. Comments on the post include, “Well done Yvonne that dress would mean a lot to you xxx”, “What a beautiful gesture Yvonne, (lump in throat )” and “Emotionally wrecked now … such a lovely thing to do x”.

According to the charity’s website, “Every year around 17 babies a day or 3500 a year are born sleeping or sadly pass away shortly after birth”.

The sad reality is that these babies are often too small for parents to “find something appropriate to dress their Baby in”.

“All parents should be given the opportunity to dress their baby and all babies should be laid to rest in a special item clothing”, the website states.
