1. They weren’t kidding
East Coasters are digging out today after a weekend of record snowfall that is responsible for at least 29 deaths. Winter Storm Jonas, which began Friday and dumped two to three feet of snow from Massachusetts to South Carolina, hit the Washington area the hardest. Schools in that city are closed today. Other districts are open, despite snowbanks that might make clambering into the school bus difficult. Eh, kids are resilient. — The New York Times

2. Are you ready
Hope you still have some beer and chips left over from the storm, because Super Bowl 50 is only two weeks away. The Broncos defeated the Patriots yesterday 20-18 in the AFC championship game and will take on the Carolina Panthers. That pits QB Peyton Manning against Cam Newton, marking the end of a rivalry between Manning and the Patriots’ QB Tom Brady… and possibly the beginning of a new one between Manning vs. Newton. — CNN
3. Dream team
The retired NBA all-star player Shaquille O’Neal joined forces with the Gainesville, Florida, police department to play a little pick-up basketball with local kids. A week or so ago, local cops responded to a noise complaint of kids playing basketball on the street by joining the kids in their game, which naturally produced a heartwarming viral video. O’Neal saw the video and decided to make the scene even more heartwarming by joining the cops and rolling up to the block where the kids were playing. Good times were had by all. — Slate

4. Not OK-Corral
A Mississippi gun store owner and his son were killed in a shootout with two customers this weekend after an argument over a $25 repair bill. The two customers, who are father and son, became angry when a gun they’d left to be repaired wasn’t ready, and were told there would be a $25 bill. No charges have been filed. So, who was the good guy with the gun? — NBC News

5. Gruesome
ISIS released a propaganda video that appears to show the last hours of the nine Paris attackers, including their final messages to the world. The video, which is about 18 minutes long, is highly produced and edited. There is an audio message from the apparent ringleader and videos from the other eight. At the end of each of the eight attackers’ messages, a militant kills a prisoner. The victim’s identity is unknown. — CNN
6. Twitter skitter
Four executives are leaving Twitter in a major leadership change-up. The company is adding a new chief marketing officer and two new board members. Twitter hasn’t been growing as fast as Wall Street would like, and losing a few execs might be a stab at improving the company’s momentum, but CEO Jack Dorsey still hasn’t laid out what the company could be doing to pick up steam. — NBC News
