1. Horror
Twenty-four migrants, including 10 children, drowned after their boat capsized in the Mediterranean between Turkey and Greece. Forty-five people were on the boat; only 10 have been rescued so far. Last year 3,811 people died or went missing in the Mediterranean Sea. Most were migrants fleeing war zones or poverty in their home countries. — CNN
2. Shame
The husband of the late Terri Schiavo, who was a focal point in the right-to-die movement in the late ’90s and early 2000s, has called Jeb Bush’s new campaign ad “disgusting.” The ad, which emphasizes Bush’s “deep faith” and his commitment to the “right to life,” shows an image of Terri Schiavo, who was in a coma for 15 years. Her husband insisted she would not have wanted to live like that and wanted her taken off life support; her parents objected, and then-Governor Bush waded in on the side of the parents. 3. Standoff
Three more of the Oregon wildlife refuge occupiers have been arrested, and the jailed leader of the group, Ammon Bundy, has urged the remaining protesters to go home. The occupation, which was kind of a “siege-light,” had the occupiers coming and going as they pleased to meetings and dinners out. On Tuesday, eight were arrested and one killed. The remaining protesters in the refuge told a reporter they’re digging in. And that they’ve been drinking. What could go wrong? — The New York Times

4. Feud
Donald Trump‘s not debating tonight, but that doesn’t mean he’s not in the news. His decision not to attend has dominated the airwaves for two days now, as his ugly and mostly one-sided feud with Fox anchor Megyn Kelly has gathered steam. Fox has refused to replace Kelly as the moderator, and so Trump refuses to attend. Fox put out a press release yesterday that asked how President Trump would handle, say, Putin, if he can’t handle Kelly. A solid journalistic question. — The New York Times

5. Reforming Ferguson
The city of Ferguson and the Department of Justice have reached an agreement intended to begin reforming the city’s police department. The deal means more training for officers, more recruitment of minorities into the police department, less use of police force and a repeal of the “failure to comply” ordinance, which was disproportionately used against the black community. Fingers crossed it does some good. — NBC News

6. Rejected
Sweden is gearing up to expel 80,000 refugees from the country over the next year, the interior minister announced. The government received about 163,000 applications for asylum this year; about 45 percent of applications are generally rejected. Anti-immigration feelings are running high in Europe (and in the U.S.) even in the face of news like refugees drowning while fleeing across the Mediterranean. — CNN
