It’s Monday morning, so don’t do too much, too fast. Wake up slowly with these news headlines.
1. The thrill of… the shill?
The Denver Broncos defeated the Carolina Panthers 24-10 last night in Super Bowl 50. Fans had been anticipating the game would be a fond farewell for Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning, but Manning didn’t offer any clues to his plans after the game, saying only that he wanted to drink some Budweiser — he reportedly owns a couple of the distributors. He also drank some Gatorade and gave the Papa John’s founder a big air kiss. Let it never be said that Peyton Manning is ever off-message. — Bloomberg
2. Oops
Gloria Steinem has apologized for implying that the young women who support Bernie Sanders do so to meet men. On Friday night, Steinem was a guest on Real Time with Bill Maher, and while commenting on the state of feminism, she noted that generally women get more activist as they get older: “When you’re young, you’re thinking, ‘Where are the boys?’ The boys are with Bernie.” She apologized via Facebook on Sunday, writing, “Whether they gravitate to Bernie or Hillary, young women are activist and feminist in greater numbers than ever before.” — MSNBC
3. Gloves, off
Bill Clinton delivered a stinging attack on Bernie Sanders on Sunday, implying that the Vermont senator is dishonest, plays fast and loose with the facts and has at least benefited from the sexism directed toward Hillary Clinton. Sanders enjoys a sizable lead in the polls in New Hampshire, which has its primary on Tuesday. — The New York Times

4. Don’t let the door hit ya
Airport workers handled the laptop containing the bomb that the “worst terrorist ever” used to blow only himself up on a plane. Yesterday, Somali officials released the video that shows one worker handing the laptop to another worker. The suspect Abdullahi Abdisalam Borleh detonated the bomb on a passenger plane last Tuesday, blowing a hole in the fuselage that dragged him, and only him, out. Good riddance. — CNN
5. Is it opposite day?
Chicago police officer Robert Rialmo, who shot and killed a mentally ill teenager — and accidentally killed the boy’s 55-year-old neighbor while he was at it — has filed a lawsuit against the family of the boy he shot, citing trauma. Yes, the trauma of killing their son. He is seeking between $50,000 and $10M to compensate for his suffering. Yes, his suffering. — Slate

6. Is it backwards day?
If you watch the Super Bowl for the commercials, you may have been somewhat baffled by the bizarre ad for Colonial Williamsburg that aired in select markets during Sunday’s game. It shows footage of various historical events, like 9/11 and the struggle for civil rights, happening in reverse. Like, smoke being sucked back into the WTC towers and civil rights protesters and suffragettes marching backwards. Taken as a whole, it seems like Colonial Williamsburg wants to go back in time to a pre-civil rights, pre-women-having-the-vote era. I mean, even if you actually want that, you don’t usually say it in public. At the Super Bowl. — Slate

7. Rubio meltdown
Marco Rubio was supposed to be the “establishment” candidate of choice, hand-picked by party elders as the best positioned Republican pol to take on Donald Trump. Until Saturday night, that is, when he apparently short-circuited his programming and couldn’t stop repeating a canned speech about Obama. His Republican opponents continued the attack on Sunday at various events in New Hampshire about his robotic performance; Rubio continued to roll out the speech at his own campaign events yesterday. Twitter has nicknamed him “Rubio bot.” — The Washington Post
