It’s Thursday! Only one day until the weekend, so start making all your fun plans. But first wake up with these news headlines.
1. This explains a lot
In the interest of better understanding the people who vote for Donald Trump, The Economist and YouGov conducted a poll of the Republican front-runner’s supporters. One result? Nearly 20 percent of them believe that Lincoln should not have issued the Emancipation Proclamation. (It is possible they were reacting to the “executive action” part of the question rather than the “free the slaves” aspect, but who knows.) More alarming: Out of the general population — not just Trumpies — 13 percent disapproved of the Emancipation Proclamation and 17 percent weren’t exactly sure what they thought about it. Yikes. — The Huffington Post
2. Obstructionism
The hashtag #DoYourJob began trending yesterday after President Obama wrote a post for the website SCOTUSBlog, which covers the news of the Supreme Court. He wrote that he would look for a candidate that has “A sterling record. A deep respect for the judiciary’s role. An understanding of the way the world really works.” #DoYourJob began trending soon after. — SCOTUSBlog

3. Heavy weather
More than seven people were killed by yesterday’s severe weather, which included more than 16 tornadoes on the East Coast, enormous hailstones and 100-mph winds. The immediate tornado and hail threat has passed, but the tail end of the pressure system could mean snow for the Great Lakes area and strong winds for the Northeast. — CNN
4. #Threats
An ISIS group called the Sons Caliphate Army has released a video that threatens social media titans Jack Dorsey and Mark Zuckerberg. The 25-minute video threatens to not only “take down” Facebook and Twitter but also shows the two men engulfed in flames or riddled with bullet holes. Both companies routinely shut down accounts for supporting or advocating terrorism. — CNN Money

5. Get out your red pen
A Russia-U.S. ceasefire is going into effect this weekend in Syria, but questions remain as to whether the Syrians are actually on board with this. Secretary of State John Kerry told the Senate that if this plan doesn’t work, the U.S. has other tricks up its sleeve, including possibly redrawing the borders of Syria. The civil war and ethnic cleansing has lasted five years in that country, and the idea that Syria as-is might not be sustainable is gaining some traction. — Slate
6. No, that’s not weird at all
In what is sure to fan the flames of right-wing conspiracy theorists, TheWashington Post has reported that the hunting trip Antonin Scalia was on in his last days was hosted, or at least attended by, members of an exclusive Austrian fraternity that traces its origins back to the 1600s. Members of the International Order of St. Hubertus, which is all-male, natch, wear dark-green robes with a cross emblazoned on them and hold titles such as “Grand Master.” What is this, a John Grisham novel? — The Washington Post
