How to brighten your home with handcrafted paper flowers

Thinking about refreshing your home decor can seem like a tasking endeavor, but there are tons of simple ways to brighten your home without having to spend a lot of time or money. Here are a few of my favorite easy and effortless ways to rejuvenate your place by incorporating handmade paper flowers, just in time for the warmer months. What better way to add a personal touch to your surroundings than to actually handcraft your accents and elegant pieces?

Use flowers in rooms without natural light

Bring some liveliness and interest to a dark space by incorporating bright and delicate paper flowers. Any light in the room will reflect off the delicateness and dimension of a material like crepe paper to create a beautiful and soft accent. This crepe-paper bouquet of calla lilies features crisp and bold white blooms with vibrant green stems, injecting hints of warmth into any dreary or lifeless room.

Hang door wreaths according to season

Give your home some curb appeal with an elegant floral wreath on your front door. Your guests will immediately be greeted by beautiful blooms you can display according to season. Showcase a hydrangea wreath in soft and airy hues during the summer, or make a felt leaf wreath mixing fall tones like burgundy, harvest orange and cornflower blue for the colder months.

Incorporate orchids into your home or office

Orchids have always been extremely popular for home decor because not only are they stunning flowers, they are also very low maintenance. And with a paper orchid, low maintenance turns into no maintenance! Make a gorgeous white and gold cymbidium orchid using metallic papers or a deep purple dendrobium orchid for some visual playfulness in your living room during the winter season.

Attempt a DIY art piece

Paper flowers can easily be used for all types of DIY wall hangings in your living room, bedroom or kitchen. Add a geometric element by framing paper flowers in a shadowbox, for an interesting 3D art piece. I have some examples using mini paper roses in gold or ombre pink. Choose colors to match your specific color scheme and flowers to complement your personal style.

Use a blooming branch as a beautiful centerpiece

Centerpieces are an easy way to add some immediate elegance to your decor. Making a simple centerpiece for your dining room or kitchen table creates a lovely visual texture. All you need to make an easy blooming branch or spiral rose branch centerpiece are some branches and paper. You can find branches at any craft store, but I prefer to pick up some mossy ones from my own backyard for a natural touch. Using metallic or tissue paper, simply hot glue blooms onto your branches and display them in a pot or vase with stones as a base.

Match floral arrangements to celebrate each season

One classic way to brighten a space is by displaying the prominent blooms of the season to celebrate and appreciate the uniqueness of each flower. Daffodils are a classically spring flower, while anemones thrive in the fall. One tip I always give is to mix fresh flowers and paper flowers, which results in a visually stunning combination of delicate fresh petals and shimmery metallic papers that reflect the light in any room.

Make a flower garland to hang in your living room or use as party decor

Garlands can be made for any occasion and any season to brighten your home or liven your party. Make a spring-flower garland with bright pinks and oranges to create a tropical feel, or use this classic white-flower vellum garland as a beautiful backdrop for a soiree.

Use mini wreaths for your votive candles

Candles are a simple addition that bring so much for so little. Add some flair to your plain store-bought candles by crafting mini-wreaths to place around your votives. Using glitter paper to make the mini wreaths helps enliven your winter and holiday decor, or craft ones of spring greenery like boxwood for the warmer months.

Use flowers on your table and place settings

If you’re planning a dinner party or hosting a special event at your home, incorporate paper flowers into your table’s place settings and party motifs. Choose your favorite paper-flower bloom to place on top of your cloth napkins, or sprinkle them around your set table. Even adding a few cut metallic paper leaves in a complementary color can give your place settings an extra depth and aesthetic.

Enhance an outdoor space with succulent planter boxes

Your alfresco spaces certainly count as a part of your home decor, so give them some love by adding rustic wood planter boxes with felt or paper succulents. Create your own succulent garden using card stock to add bring greenery to your front porch, dinner table or back patio.
