Most countries that have breed bans ban the boerboel. This assertive mastiff is a versatile farm dog and companion, but the AKC warns that the breed is very dominant and not suitable for inexperienced owners. These large dogs defended South African farms and property and that territorial instinct is strong in them today. These traits, combined with their dominant nature, make them challenging pets and potentially dangerous in inexperienced hands.
