I’ve been a big fan of OPI since I was first allowed to wear nail polish, so I was super excited to team up with them to create a charming Alice in Wonderland tea party based on OPI’s new Alice Though the Looking Glass nail polish collection! The beautiful collection is inspired by Tim Burton’s whimsical and colorful sequel, Alice Through the Looking Glass, which is in theaters now. The movie takes place in a bizarre and mysterious new world that’s a bit Willy Wonka-esque!
The new OPI polishes are fun and playful with clever names like “Alice, Mad as a Hatter,” “Off With Her Red!” and “Thanks So Muchness!” Perfectly quirky names that fit the film! We used colors of the nail polish and the whimsical nature of the film to create a Mad Hatter Tea Party. The polishes were great for mini-manicures, and with eight playful shades, it was easy to choose a color. You could also do fun marbling projects and nail art with them too.
For the décor, I scoured vintage shops and antique stores for funky teacups and found a plethora of unmatched, colorful cups and saucers. Matching goes out the window when you’re throwing an Alice in Wonderland party! We served warm tea with honey, delicious tea sandwiches, macaroons, the cutest chocolate cats, marzipan strawberries, shortbread cookies with “Eat Me” written on them, lemon scones and a delicious vanilla cake with asymmetrical flowers added to it. The funky cake made a statement and was a wonderful centerpiece on the table. And of course, we didn’t forget the candy! Pink gumballs and chocolate candies were placed on the table to add a punch of color and sweet charm.
I always have fresh flowers at all my parties, they are everything when it comes to décor, and I can’t imagine not having an arrangement. We chose flowers that would complement the nail polish colors, and thank goodness it’s peony season because they really popped and added the perfect touch to the arrangement. The gold playing cards are an ode to the original Alice in Wonderland characters that she meets in the Queen’s garden. I chose gold inspired by OPI’s shiny gold polish called “A Mirror Escape.” The tablecloth was made by using layers of fabric, specifically chosen based off the nail polish colors. It turned out beautiful and kept the décor vibrant, whimsical and on theme! Throwing unique parties is always a blast because you can let your imagination run wild, and the film and colors provided quite the inspiration.
