Ikea tried to warn us about this popular line of furniture. It offered repair kits and anchoring kits. But for whatever reason, we weren’t getting the message. Now Ikea is recalling the “Malm” series dressers, after the deaths of at least three toddlers.

But the Consumer Product Safety Commission says it’s aware of six kids crushed to death underneath the dressers.
“Enough is enough,” Chairman of the CPSC said. “These are inherently very dangerous and unstable products if children are around them.”

The recall impacts more than 29 million dressers, including the budget “Malm” line. Ikea has already removed the Malm dressers from its website and is offering full refunds to anyone who purchased them.
“Please take them out of the room,” Ikea USA president Lars Peterson simply told NBC News.

The children who have already died as a result of being crushed by an Ikea Malm dresser include 2-year-old Curren Collas in 2014. Then, 23-month-old Camden Ellis was the second killed just four months later. Now news of a third toddler death, Ted McGee from Minnesota, has sparked the international recall effort.
Last year Ikea, along with the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s campaign to get parents to anchor heavy furniture to the wall, sent out more than 300,000 anchor kits, but now the retailer has decided more needs to be done.
