We all have a few nicer items that you might want a few bucks for instead of dropping them off at Goodwill for the tax write off. Enter Poshmark. This mobile app is free to download and allows you to sell higher-end items ranging from White House Black Market dresses to Prada handbags. So far I’ve sold over $300 worth of items, all of which I also put on eBay and didn’t get so much as a view on the page.

Ease of use and navigation
Poshmark is so much easier than eBay, you just point your phone camera at merchandise and set a price and list – it takes less than one minute. There are fewer fields to fill out than eBay and the pictures are really what sells the product. Some people notice better sales when they use a mannequin or add descriptors of what the item would go with in your closet. It is similar to the app Mercari, but I’ve found that my items sell much faster on Poshmark.
It helps you sell your items through offering deals
If your item isn’t selling and you drop the price, an alert is sent out to anyone following that item. Additionally, if the price drops enough they will hold a flash sale where the user gets reduced shipping on the item.
Easy communication
People can purchase or counter your initial offer and with one click you are able to accept, deny or counter back. If you want to leave a comment for the potential buyer, that is super easy as well.
Commission
Poshmark takes a 20 percent commission on sales of $15 or more (or a flat fee of $2.95 for $15 and under) which is pretty standard for these apps. It automatically calculates your take as you set the price, so you don’t have to do the math yourself. Personally, I think 20 percent is steep, but my items sold within one week and seemed like a good compromise to get the stuff out of the house.

Easy shipping
Once you accept an offer, a pre-paid USPS shipping label is emailed to you, and all you have to do is print it out, package it up, and leave it at the nearest post office. The buyer is provided with the tracking number and can track as soon as it is scanned in. I like to put a note in the box saying that I hope they enjoy their purchase – I’m like a mini-Zappos customer service department! The hardest part of this whole process for me was finding a box to send my items in, but I do buy a lot of stuff on Amazon so now I save those boxes.
Fast delivery
You are expected to ship in one to two days, and when you do, the buyer is super happy. The main benefit to you is that your order isn’t cancelled and you get a little thrill when they give you a five star rating!
Quick payment
Once the seller confirms receipt of the order, your profits are put into your profile. You have the option of cashing out or holding funds until after a few more sales. I always cash out immediately. To do so, you have the option of payment through direct deposit to your checking account or a check mailed home. Within about two to three days the cash will be available to you. You can also hold it in your account and use it to buy items on the app.
I will continue to use this site and hope to get a few more sales out of it. It’s definitely worth the time to download the app and make a few extra bucks, you never know if you have something laying around that is worth $100. Hey you might as well try it since there is no charge for listing!
