My friends and I can barely decide where to go to brunch on the weekends, so I’m fascinated by HGTV’s newest show, My Flippin’ Friends, which premiers on Sunday, April 2. The concept is five friends flipping homes in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and apparently not killing each other in the process. (Impressive!)
The show seems like a great way to revamp the classic couple-who-renovates-and-sells format, and I’m already pumped about the potential of the new show. Here are just a few of the reasons why I’ll be tuning in to My Flippin’ Friends.

1. There’s bound to be drama
Listen, if solid married couples like Chip and Joanna Gaines can’t always see eye-to-eye on their renovations, there’s no way a group of five friends will. I’m expecting there to be a juicy amount of drama on this show, from cringe-inducing battles between the project manager and design team (there’s always an immovable support beam hidden in the house somewhere) to fights over how much to initially invest in a property. When it comes to house-flipping, five seems like a serious crowd.
2. They’re on the young side
Not all of my friends are married with kids, so it will be fun to watch a group of relatable young people flipping houses for a change. Yes, it’s cute when you see the kids on the farm in Fixer Upper, but it’s also cool to realize that you don’t have to be totally settled down and domestic in order to have a successful show on HGTV.
3. There’s variety
We’ll probably get to see the nitty-gritty of each step of the process of flipping homes. Each of the friends has a different specialty (Mike is the real estate broker, Alan’s the project manager, and Jen, Benji and Mallory are the designers), and I’m excited to get a closer look at the house-flipping process from beginning to end.

4. There will be more modern designs
I love shiplap as much as the next girl, but I’m excited to see more modern, trend-focused design on HGTV. Since the lead designer Jenni Radosevich is a famous DIY and design blogger (check her out on I Spy DIY), she’ll be in tune with the hottest looks that are circulating the internet now instead of falling back on the same classic styles. Rustic decor is all well and good, but some of us just want shiny brass, white marble and geometric accents, you know?
5. It’s always good to have something new
You can only make it through so many weekend HGTV marathons before realizing you’ve seen maybe, possibly, literally every episode of every one of their shows (even my husband can quote full episodes of Flea Market Flip at this point). I’ll watch any DIY or home renovation show I can get my hands on, so whenever a new show premieres I get excited.
If you’re as intrigued by My Flippin’ Friends as I am, you don’t have to wait too long. The pilot premieres in a little over a week, so mark your calendars and get ready to see if five friends can really work together well enough to flip a house without a hitch.
