In case you hadn’t noticed, Tia Mowry has come a long way since her breakout role (along with her twin sister, Tamera) on Sister, Sister. Since her time as a teen TV sensation, she’s become a wife to actor Cory Hardrict, mom to son Cree Taylor, star of a cooking channel show called Tia Mowry at Home, a voice against fat-shaming and internet bullying and an open book about her experience with endometriosis (more on that below).
We picked her brain about how Mowry maintains a healthy, happy life while juggling family, career and the many other responsibilities (and joys!) of being a busy, successful woman. Read, learn and steal this lady’s wisdom.
SheKnows: What’s the first thing you do in the morning?
Tia Mowry: I like to incorporate a morning stretch first thing. Then I kiss my husband and son, make them breakfast and get Cree ready for school.
For my skin, I like to take a nice hot shower to open up my pores. I wash my face with a cleanser that has vitamin C and I follow up with a facial moisturizer that has SPF. Then I lather my body with Eucerin’s Advanced Repair lotion, which keeps my skin healthy and moisturized — but not greasy — between eczema flare-ups.
SK: Do you have an emotional wellness routine?
TM: Meditating has definitely become a part of my daily routine. I meditate 10 minutes in the morning and 10 at night. It’s a nice way to start and end my day.
SK: Can you share what was most surprising during your struggle with endometriosis?
TM: The most surprising thing is how food can exacerbate inflammation or get rid of it. Food can be medicine and if you eat foods that alkalize the body, it’s amazing how that can slow down and fight inflammation.
SK: Do you have any favorite entertaining tips?
TM: When hosting a cocktail party, I like to print out a menu for the bar station. I’ll include what type of beverages we have on hand, as well as mixers so guests can customize their own drinks.

SK: What’s your best advice for moms looking to have a healthy work-life balance?
TM: Take everything not only a day at a time, but a moment at a time and forgive yourself. Some days you’re going to be the best mom ever, and some days you’re going to make mistakes — and that’s OK.
SK: Can you tell me about your female community?
TM: Yes! It’s very important to have a community of moms to lean on and pull experiences from. I always find that when you have that group of people, it makes you feel like you’re not alone. It helps you realize that if they can do it, you can too.
SK: How do you balance alone time, time with your husband and QT with Cree?
TM: I’d say that the main thing is to prioritize what’s important in your life. When you do that, you can make time for what matters. One day every week, I have a date night dedicated to my husband, and on Sundays, we have family day when we go to the park or to the movies and spend time together. Somehow, we’re able to make it all work when we carve out those special moments.
