I’m a Beauty Writer Who’s Obsessed With Dissolving Masks & This Serum-Infused Gel Sheet Is the Best Overnight Mask I’ve Tried Yet

Anyone who really knows me knows I’m borderline obsessed with skincare. Even before I became a beauty writer, the college version of me couldn’t stay away from K-beauty products and new skincare brands if she tried. In my adult life, one of my biggest fascinations is with overnight masks. There’s just something so captivating about peeling a clear, skin-like piece of film off your face to reveal a glossy glow. I mean, I could watch a daily shed video over and over again if you’d let me. And ever since overnight sheet masks went viral last year, I’ve made it my mission to try as many as I can. 

Up until recently, I would swear only by the Biodance Overnight Collagen Mask. And honestly, I still do — not only is it the overnight mask that made the product popular, but it also works incredibly well. But now, there’s a new kid on the block that I recommend to any and everyone who’ll listen (i.e., you). Let me put you on to PRIMERA’s PRMR Vitatinol Serum Gel Mask. Known for its iconic PRMR branding, PRIMERA is one of the leading Korean skincare brands around. I was first introduced to the brand when I tried the best-selling Oil-to-Foam Cleanser last year. After liking it so much, I knew that it wouldn’t hurt to try the brand’s overnight mask. 

In my opinion, what makes this gel mask so great (and better than others) is that it’s infused with skincare goodness other than just collagen. That’s not to say I don’t appreciate the OG collagen masks, but sometimes you want something that treats your concerns rather than just making it look more plump. What sold me on PRIMERA’s overnight mask is that it’s made with the brand’s game-changing Youth Radiance Vitatinol Serum, a wonderful combination of retinol and vitamin C. As someone who’s forever working on getting rid of their hyperpigmentation and acne scars, vitamin C is my best friend. However, retinol is like the cool girl I’m nervous about getting to know. I always want to add it to my routine, but I’m scared of my skin purging and reacting negatively. So when I discovered this mask that had both, that could gently and effectively offer me both, I knew I had to have it. 

Next to it being infused with the Vitatinol serum, PRIMERA’s mask is very pleasing to use. Anyone who’s tried one of the viral collagen masks, or any gel sheet mask for that matter, knows that the application process can be a little messy. Because the mask is the serum and not the other way around, where a sheet mask is soaking in serum, overnight masks can be a little slippery when trying to apply it. And if I’m being honest, they’re a little annoying for the first 20-ish minutes (IYKYK). One of the first things I loved about PRIMERA’s mask was how it immediately stuck to my face. There was very little to no movement after applying it. 

But the best part is, this mask dissolves quickly! Which is a total game-changer if you ask me. One of the downsides I find with traditional overnight masks is that they take a while to start dissolving. So, if you’re like me, who stays up late or does skincare right before falling asleep, it can be very uncomfortable to wear one to bed. Within 10 minutes, I noticed the PRIMERA mask start to dissolve and cling closer to my face, making it so easy for me to lay down and enjoy my show before drifting to sleep. After 30 minutes of wearing it, most of the mask started to look clear, meaning it was working, and the serum was slowly but surely dissolving. After about an hour and 20 minutes, the mask was completely clear, much quicker than the Biodance collagen masks I’ve tried. 

Once the mask is clear, you can remove it or leave it on; it’s your choice. I ended up sleeping in my mask very comfortably and somehow took it off in the middle of the night. My skin felt soft and dewy when I woke up but looked significantly brighter than a regular collagen mask. If I’m being honest, after the first use, I totally wanted to gatekeep these (sorry, not sorry). But after experiencing such a beautiful spa-like glow in my apartment for the second time, I knew it would be cruel of me not to share. As I said before, I’ve made it a high-priority mission to try as many gel overnight masks as possible. Thus far, PRIMERA’s PRMR Vitatinol Serum Gel Mask is my absolute favorite.
