If you’re one of the lucky people who owns an Instant Pot, you’ve probably mastered meats, sides and even desserts. But there’s a lot more you can make with that handy little pot — including stuff you don’t eat. That’s right: in addition slow-but-fast cooking chickens, your favorite kitchen appliance can do a lot more. This includes making some pretty great beauty products like soap, lotion and face cream.
And if you’re into natural body products, you’re probably aware that they can be kind of pricey. The good news is that these Instant Pot creations are as easy on your wallet as they are on your sensitive skin. And there’s more it can do, including making cough syrup, vanilla extract and potpourri.
Here are some of our favorite recipes:
Lotion bars
These delicious-smelling hard lotion bars not only smell amazing, but the mixture of oils — coconut, jojoba and avocado — along with shea butter and beeswax keep your skin in top shape. Plus, these no-mess bars are perfect for travel. Check out this easy recipe from Everything Pretty for step-by-step instructions.
Soap
Not only can you make bars of lotion with your Instant Pot, you can also do bars of soap. Joybilee Farms has a great recipe for herbal soap that would be a perfect gift (if you’re able to resist keeping it for yourself).
Face cream
Slathering on a rich face cream at night feels great and is good for your skin. Try this recipe from certified integrative nutritionist and fitness instructor Dora Vandekamp, founder of the blog Biohack Your Beauty.
Cough syrup
Most of us have to deal with a cold or cough at some point during the year. If you have kids, it probably happens a lot more frequently than that. To prepare for your family’s next cold, whip up a batch of homemade natural cough syrup, using the recipe from These Lovely Acres featuring ginger, garlic, lemon and honey.
Vanilla extract
Yes, this one is bordering on food, but is more of a flavoring than anything else. You always seem to run out of vanilla extract when you’re in the middle of baking something, so why not make a big Instant Pot batch ahead of time, using this recipe from Tidbits.
Potpourri
Do you know what we don’t seen enough of these days? Potpourri. There used to be a time when you couldn’t walk into someone’s home bathroom without seeing a bowl of it resting on the top of the commode. Let’s bring potpourri back, using this Instant Pot recipe from Home Pressure Cooking.
