This $6 Oil From Target Is My Secret to Combatting Dry, Winter Skin & Achieving Long-Lasting Hydration

I go through the same ordeal every winter — as soon as the temperature dips below 40° F, my skin begins to go from silky smooth to rough, itchy, flaky, and extra dry. I don’t have a skin condition like psoriasis or eczema, but my skin does not do well in cold weather. Maybe it’s just my skin’s way of rebelling against living in such a cold climate (Upstate, NY), but it makes cold-weather temps pretty uncomfortable. I’ve spent a lot of years developing the ultimate winter skin hydration routine and have found success with things like humidifiers, lotions, supplements, increasing my water intake, you name it and I’ve probably tried it. But one product stands above the rest when I need to treat my skin to some extra moisture.

I was strolling through the aisles of Target a few weeks ago when I spotted a bottle of Dr. Teal’s Moisturizing Body Oil and since it was only $6, I tossed it in my cart and figured I’d give it a try. The instructions said it could be added to bath oil but I’m not much of a bath person so I decided to try it in the shower instead.

I love the lavender scent but the oil also comes in a relaxing eucalyptus and spearmint scent if that’s more your preference.

After I finished my shower routine, I drizzled the body oil on my body and rubbed it in. While the instructions on the bottle say to apply it after the shower, I think applying it while you are in the shower is the key. The water allows you to use less oil (and get more bang for your buck), plus it’s less messy to apply it while you’re in the shower.

After showering, I apply my favorite dry skin lotion, Curel’s Ultra Healing Lotion (also available at Target), and my skin feels fully hydrated. The best part is that that ultra-hydrated feel lasts a full day. When I add the oil to my shower routine, I can go a full 24 hours without having to reapply lotion. I use the oil probably 3-4 times a week now and I finally feel like my skin is back to its natural, glowy state and I can kiss the itchy, dry, winter skin goodbye.
