Perfect summer getaway: Maui

Days 5 and 6

The Hyatt’s fragrant, Asian-art accented Spa Moana is a destination unto itself. I checked in for a 50-minute Lomi Lomi massage ($140) – a traditional Hawaiian massage using firm pressure and long, rhythmic strokes. I fell in love with the rich spa products, especially the Cocomango lotion ($12.95) made with botanical extracts, vitamins, and sweet almond oil.

Later that day, Malhini, our hula instructor, hooked us up with tickets to a magic show back at the K’aanapali Beach hotel. The magic show was cheesy fun, and the kids in the audience loved it.

Our final stay was at the apartment-style, ’70s décor (shag carpet and large swivel chairs) Whaler on Ka’anapali Beach condominiums.

Before we left for the airport, we lounged on the balcony, nibbled pineapple and sipped champagne. What an activity-packed vacation!

“Mahalo (thank you),” I said silently as I listened to the soothing tide. I could certainly get used to this royal Hawaiian treatment.
