Online shopping tips and tricks

Use coupons and promo codes

You can find deep discounts by locating coupons on the internet. On the retailer’s website, you will normally be able to find the current discounts, sales and coupons. You can also search on the internet for promo code and coupons. Several websites such as Retail Me Not and Current Codes, provide online coupon codes for a vast array of merchants.

Make sure the seller is reputable

If you are buying an item from a retailer you have never heard of or dealt with before, it’s in your best interest to do a little research about the company. Make sure that it is a secure site. The padlock symbol when you are placing your order is a good indicator. You can also search the internet for complaints about the company, check with the Better Business Bureau, or call the company directly to ask specific questions.

Woot! Woot!

Have you heard about Woot? Woot.com is online store that sells one product each day at an enormous discount. Woot sells only one product per day until it is sold out or until 11:59pm central time when it is replaced.  The new product is released every morning at 12:00am central time, seven days a week. The discounts are deep, so it’s definitely worth checking out everyday. Woot concentrates on computer hardware or electronic gadgets. Another site similar to Woot is WhiskeyMilitia.com, where you can find a variety of interesting discounted items.

Don’t forget about ebay

Online auction websites such as eBay are a terrific way to find low-priced products. To avoid fraud, be sure to check the feedback of the seller. The feedback will give you an idea about how quickly to expect shipment, quality of the merchandise and other details about the seller. When using ebay or other auction sites, be sure that the item is new (if that’s what you want) and not used or refurbished.

Check out customer reviews

Before making your final purchase, it’s a good idea to read customer reviews about the specific product you are buying. This is particularly helpful when purchasing high-end items such as computers, cameras and other electronics. Sites such as CNET.com offer reviews and ratings from both editors and actual users. ConsumerSearch.com and ConsumerReports.org offer extensive reviews as well.  Additionally, you can often find buyer reviews directly on retailers’ websites.
