Hair makeovers that make a difference

THE CUT:

After chopping off 10 inches, Danilo cut layers to thin out Gonzalez’s superthick hair and give it a modern feel. The layers also helped eliminate what she calls “the mushroom effect,” a puffiness problem that in the past had always ruined her attempts at a shorter ‘do. Another plus: The look should last for months without a salon visit. “The right layers allow you to keep a cut longer,” Danilo explains. “She’ll have a great style until she’s grown out at least five inches.”

THE STYLING SECRETS:

To keep Gonzalez’s thick hair weighed down and in control, Danilo applied detangling and antifrizz creams. Then he accentuated her natural waves with a large-barrel curling iron.

THE VERDICT:

“Short cuts often look juvenile, but this one is sophisticated,” she says. “I love it.”
