Michelangelo — aka Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni — was a painter, sculptor, architect and poet who grew up in Florence. Some of his best-known works include The Sistine Chapel ceiling and the sculpture La Pieta , both in Vatican City, as well as the towering statue of David in Florence.
When the master died in 1564, at the grand old age of 88, he was entombed at at Basilica di Santa Croce di Firenze (in Florence). As can be seen above, respects can still be paid by one and all to the still-influential Michelangelo.
That is the end of your Italian armchair tour for now. We can’t show you every one of the country’s wonders, because there is truly no end to the amazing sights and sounds you’ll discover when you visit Italy in person.
