Hit the Road with Harley-Davidson

The Dilemma:  Golf or Harley?

By Natalie

June 11, 2009

I often ask myself this question on any nice day; do I ride my Harley or play a round of golf?  This is often answered by who is persuading me to join them on a ride or on a round of
golf.  But, sometimes I play or ride for a larger purpose.

Recently I played in a golf benefit raising money to support women who are being challenged by breast cancer.  Many of the women golfers were breast cancer survivors.  It was very
humbling to spend the day and evening with a group of such women.  I felt fortunate to be as healthy as I am. This benefit took on a new meaning for me this year as I have cousin currently
going through treatment for breast cancer.   I entered her name in a book at the tourney and to hear her name read out loud at dinner was emotional.  Be Healthy Cindy!

In August I’ll participate in a motorcycle ride to benefit Multiple Sclerosis research.  This ride will also take on a different meaning for me this year.  A close friend of mine was
diagnosed with MS a couple of years ago after being mis-diagnosed with Lyme’s disease for almost ten years.  She’s a rider herself and rides a REALLY LOUD Softail.   When we ride
next to one another in a group, it’s not uncommon to have those following us fall way behind because they can’t hear!  I’ll be joining my friend Connie next week on an annual golf trip we
take.  So, I guess she also shares in my dilemma of golf vs. Harley!

The Ladies Ride: Dianne, Darnell & Natalie Hit the Road Together

While back in Arizona to attend a wedding, I participated in an all-ladies ride sponsored by our local Harley-Davidson dealership in Apache Junction.  With my bike now in Minnesota, I was wondering if I’d be able to go on the ride.
But, my friend Helen came through with an extra bike for our group.  How fun!  I got to try out a Road King Custom for the day!

It was one of those early season hot days in Arizona.  The temperature was supposed to reach over 100 for the day.  Even so, there was a large group of women ready to ride.  Most had
long sleeved shirts along to protect from the sun and all were drinking plenty of water.  The buzz and excitement in the air as we got ready to depart was infectious!

The group of ladies was very diverse in their riding skills and experience.  It was great to see how the more experienced riders led the ride and also took the less experienced under their
wings.  We wanted everyone to make it to our destination safely and enjoy the ride with and the camaraderie of fellow women riders.  And, yes you should’ve seen the faces of people we
passed as they realized the 20+ bikes that just went by were all being ridden by women!
