Grandpa Bill

Earlier this summer, Darnell wrote in her blog how riding must be in our blood. I agree with that statement. There is an inner desire to ride your own bike. Sometimes your friends fuel
this desire and other times it’s in your nature. This summer my husband Terry and I rode our bikes to a couple family gatherings. Once you ride up the stories begin! I heard
stories from may relatives about the bikes they rode and wished they still owned. I heard how my cousin Shelley would only go to sleep as a little girl after riding with her dad on his bike,
her head resting on the gas tank. I found out how many of my cousins have bikes or wish they did.
I was also given this photo of my Grandpa Bill. One of my aunts wrote on the back of this picture the quote “Bill Kubista and one of his loves”. I’ve done many
cross-country rides and I can’t imagine riding the bike he had for many miles! I’m not sure how much he rode or how far he took this bike, this will be a topic of discussion.
And, I’m sure this picture is a sign that riding must be in my blood.
Raspberry Jam

It’s prime raspberry season in Minnesota and I’m sitting here trying to find a way to connect raspberry jam with riding motorcycles. Hmm, let’s see – you eat jam so
you have enough energy to ride your motorcycle? Well, that’s kind of a stretch, but it’s close!
Last summer I made a wonderful batch of raspberry jam, which we’ve since eaten up. Considering how much we love raspberry jam, I wanted to make more this summer. But, of course I
was faced with another dilemma – ride motorcycle or pick raspberries. Well, I was able to do both (kind of). We paid our friends kids to pick the raspberries for us so we could go
out riding last Sunday. We were out on our bikes all afternoon riding around the Minnesota countryside, putting on about 160 miles. The sun was out and the temperature was perfect!
Once we were back in town, we headed over to our friends to collect our raspberries.
One evening this week I made 12 half-pints of luscious raspberry jam. We will be eating this all year long and hopefully enjoying it on toast before we head out on a ride.
