Tousled hair, glowing skin — it’s a beachy look that’s sexy and beautiful. Want that sunkissed beauty look? With these helpful beauty tips and amazing products, it’s yours!
Natural makeup
The beachside look starts with natural makeup. Not many of us can skip makeup altogether, even at the beach or pool. But that’s okay, as long as you don’t look like you’re packing it on. To get a summertime look, these makeup products are essential.
Tinted moisturizer
Select a water-resistant tinted moisturizer to balance out your skin tone. Pick a formula with SPF to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays. Many high-quality products are on the market, including Kimiko Beauty Hydrating Tint, Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer and Philosophy The Supernatural. Carry blotting tissues with you to absorb the sweat and oils from your skin throughout the day.
Waterproof mascara
You don’t need much eye makeup if you’re going beachy. A coat or two of mascara, however, can open up your eyes. Curl your eyelashes first and than add waterproof mascara in brown rather than black for a more natural look. Our affordable favorites include Revlon Fabulash Waterproof Mascara and Almay One Coat Waterproof Mascara. They’re just $7 to $8 each at most drugstores and online at drugstore.com.
Lip gloss with SPF
Give your lips just a touch of shine with lip gloss. Our summer favorite is Smashbox Limitless Long Wearing Lip Gloss. With SPF 15, it protects your lips from UVA/UVB rays. It also contains sea kale to revitalize your lips plus antioxidants. It comes in six fabulous colors, including Infinite, which is a peachy natural color perfect for summer. Get Smashbox lip gloss at Nordstrom and other department stores for $21.
Glowing skin
Glow from head to toe this summer. The beachy look isn’t about overbaked skin; it’s about a healthy, natural-looking glow. Start working up your tan with sunless tanning products over time. If you need a quick fix, head to your local salon for a spray-on tan. Whatever you do, don’t bake in the sun or a tanning bed. There’s nothing beautiful about wrinkles or skin cancer.
Before you hit the beach or pool, slather on an SPF 15 or higher sunscreen. Don’t forget about your face, neck, feet, hands and behind your ears.
Beachy hair
For salty beach tresses with lots of volume and texture, try epsom salt. Combine equal parts of deep conditioner and epsom salt in a small glass bowl. Warm in the microwave for a few seconds until warm, not hot. Work the warm mixture through your hair from root to tip. Leave on for 20 minutes, then rinse with cool water. Let your hair air dry for a beachy, textured look. Epsom salt is available at most drugstores.
Several hair care products are designed specifically to give you that beachy look. Try the Marine Summer Hair line by Frederic Fekkai, which includes shampoo, leave-in conditioner and a frizz control product. And don’t forget their famous Fekkai Beach Waves, which contains algae, kelp and other marine ingredients to hydrate, protect and rejuvenate hair. It also creates a “surf-sexy texture.” Just spray it into your hair and enjoy the fabulous tropical smell, like a combination of salty ocean and fresh coconut. It’s available at hair salons and other retailers, and online for $23 at Fekkai.com.
