If your travels are taking you to Queensland, Australia, you will find an array of fantastic sights and attractions. Queensland is a state in the northeastern corner of Australia. From beaches to theme parks and waterfalls to the Great Barrier Reef, you are sure to enjoy your time in Queensland. Here are some of the places that you shouldn’t miss!

Brisbane

Brisbane is the state capital of Queensland, Australia. Located on the Brisbane River, Brisbane is home to many annual cultural events such as the Riverfestival, which is held every September, and the Brisbane International Film Festival in July/August. Brisbane offers popular tourist destinations such as the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, Brisbane Botanic Gardens, South Bank Parklands and Portside Wharf.

Gold Coast

With 70 km of beaches, Gold Coast is a terrific place for fun in the sun. Surfer’s Paradise is the best-known beach in Gold Coast. However, Broadbeach and Burleigh are also surf hot spots. For family fun, check out Coolangatta and Tugan. The beaches are definitely a huge attraction, as are the nature reserves, golf courses and restaurants. Additionally, Gold Coast is full of theme parks including Movie World, Dreamworld, Sea World, Wet ‘n’ Wild and WhiteWater World.

Great Barrier Reef

As you might know, the Great Barrier Reef is the world’s largest coral reef system. The reef is located off the coast of Queensland in the Coral Sea. Snorkelers and scuba divers from around the world head to the Great Barrier Reef to experience its vast biodiversity and the clear waters. Many cities on the coast of Queensland offer boat trips to the reef each day. Tours include single day trips as well as extended voyages.

Fraser Island

Fraser Island is the largest sand island in the world. It has a resident population of only 360, but many tourists visit the island every day. Located off the southern coast of Queensland north of Brisbane, Fraser Island can be reached by ferry from Hervey Bay or Inskip Point. Tour buses travel the island and you can also rent four-wheel drive vehicles to explore the area. But one of the more popular ways to experience Fraser Island is on foot with the Fraser Island Great Walk. Be ready for a real trek! It takes 6-8 days to complete the 90 km walk. You’ll experience everything from coastal heathland to woodlands to subtropical rainforests along the way.

Sunshine Coast

This coastal region of South East Queensland features tourist attractions such as Steve Irwin’s Australia Zoo, UnderWater World marine park, Buderim Ginger Factory (the largest ginger factory in the world) and Majestic Theatre. Visitors also enjoy the beautiful beaches, national parks, golf courses and much more.

Whitsundays

The Whitsundays are a group of 74 islands with lush green vegetation, aqua blue waters and beautiful white sands. Though tourist flock to the area, it never feels too crowded. Whether you just have one day to visit or several weeks, you shouldn’t miss the Whitsundays.
