6 Tips to prep your home for showing

In a down economy, every little bit counts when trying to sell a big-ticket item like your home. Linda Crisolo, senior manager of merchandising for art.com, the leading authority on wall art, suggests the following checklist to best prepare your home for showing to prospective buyers:

1.Declutter!

The best way to showcase your home in the best light possible is to clean out as much clutter as possible – including closets and cupboards. Clear off the kitchen counters (even the toaster!)

2. De-personalize

De-personalize your home by removing family photographs and as much personal memorabilia as possible. Potential buyers need to see themselves living in your house, they will have a much easier time
visualizing this if your pretty face or your children cute smile is not ‘placard’ all over the house.

3. Clean, clean and clean!

Who wants to buy a dirty house? Make every room sparkly clean from floor to ceiling — especially the windows!

4. Go for the ‘hotel” look

Give bedrooms and bathrooms the ‘hotel’ look with freshly made beds and new towels. You might want to throw a few pillows on the beds to complete the ‘look’.

5. Fresh coat of paint

For a relatively inexpensive upgrade that can make a huge impact on the look of your home consider giving your walls a fresh coat of paint in a neutral color. Check out SheKnows’ Painting Tips & Tricks >>

6. Hang neutral artwork

Just hang professionally framed art on the walls. Keep it neutral with appropriate themes for each room. Unsure of where to start? Art.com’s “Shop by Décor” section has a vast selection to browse through
with various style ranging from traditional home to modern or even coastal chic.
